‘SHOP SAFE & SHOP LOCAL’
CARMARTHEN IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Businesses and shops in Carmarthen have been busy preparing their premises to welcome back shoppers who have been kept in lockdown for over three months.
Many national stores and local traders have reopened their businesses during the last couple of weeks, and have introduced strict safety procedures to minimise the risk of anyone contracting the virus. These measures include providing sanitising gel dispensers for customers, installing perspex safety screens on sales counters, using one-way systems and 2 meter spacing markers, having a maximum number of people in the premises at any one time, and the use by staff of transparent face visors that have been supplied free by Carmarthen Town Council.
Paul Raven, who runs Tea Traders in Guildhall Square said: ‘We've completed our risk assessments and made the necessary changes to our store and procedures. We've really enjoyed chatting with regular customers again over the past few days and we are really grateful for their understanding and support. This is a very tough time for local businesses and the retail and hospitality sectors have been hit especially hard so it is a huge relief to be able to reopen at last. Customer and staff wellbeing are our top priority and the safety measures that businesses like ours have put in place across the town will ensure that customers can feel safe and visit us with confidence.'
Carmarthen Town Council has been working closely with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Carmarthenshire County Council to prepare for the safe reopening of the town. Car parking remains free, signage has been installed in the public areas to remind customers about 2 meter spacing, the public toilets are open and are being checked and cleaned regularly, and the hanging baskets have been put up and are helping to add some beautiful summer colour.
We understand that local residents may feel a little concerned about visiting the town centre for the first time since the shutdown. We would like to reassure people that due to the measures that have been introduced they can now return to Carmarthen to 'Shop Safely & Shop Local', and that a very warm welcome awaits.
